What is Cinco de Mayo?

Common Man Cocktails observes Cinco de Mayo, the fifth of may. A battle over Puebla Mexico occurs on May 5th 1862 and a rag tag group defeats a larger French army equipped for battle with poor odds. A small victory that was, in the end, short-lived was a symbolic battle that changed people's perspective. Some say, if it wasn't for such a victory, the French could have taken root in Mexico and assisted the southern US against the north in the US civil war. Today, we observe this symbolic victory with a bit of Mexican heritage.
