Mormons, the Presidency and Joe Lieberman

The likely Republican nominee for president, Mitt Romney joins a handful of Mormons — including Mormon founder Joseph Smith and Sen. Orrin Hatch — who have also run for the nation's top elected office. Though Romney has not discussed his faith thus far in this election cycle, he may fare better going forward if he opens up about his Mormonism, asserts Professor Randall Balmer, professor of American Religious History at Barnard College and Columbia University.
